Assessment Strategies
Students will be observed informally during all classes, to check for understanding, on-task behavior, collaborative work, as well as to be sure that students are mindful of the deadlines.
Student blog
The blog feature on Weebly (or other site, such as Blogspot) will be used for students to reflect and comment to postings by the teacher. In this way, student understandings can be monitored by the teacher, but students also have the opportunity to create their own knowledge of the role of newspapers by reading and responding to each other.
At times, students will be asked to complete a quick (5 minutes or less) exit reflection before class is dismissed. This will be used to check for individual understandings. Misunderstandings and gaps in knowledge can be addressed by the teacher during the next class period individually, in small groups, or through whole group instruction, as needed.
Each student will have multiple opportunities to critique other's work through-out the project. The feedback they provide will address everything from the finer points of grammar, audience, appropriateness, relevance, and more. They will act as each other's "copy editors".
Students will be asked to formally reflect on the project - both the process and the final product (both their pieces and the newspaper as a whole) - after the first edition is published. This reflection will become a part of their overall grade. The reflection will be completed using Survey Monkey.
Each of the roles will have their own rubrics, specific to the content that each will create as well as to work habits, teamwork, and quality of work.
