The students at our school have never had a student newspaper. Whereas, every week, news is provided to parents and families from the Principal and teachers, there is not a place for students to read and write about each other and the news and events important to you.
In the upcoming weeks, we will create our very own newspaper. We will explore the parts of a newspaper and select only those features that we want included in our own newspaper. You will have a chance to choose which job you would like in this project. Just as in real-life, newspapers are the creations of many different people, each doing a different job. We'll need writers and photographers, reporters and comic artisits.
At the same time, it is important that we deliever the news in keeping with the times. The Web 2.O times, that is. Not only will we produce a paper copy, we will explore and create an online edition as well. Just as any newspaper needs to be responsive to our audience and readers, we will have to make decisions about whether to continue with a print version, an online version, or a combination of the both. You will have to make those decisions, based on real data of your readership.
Just as in the real-world, we will be working with a deadline. A deadline? What's that, you ask? No worries. We'll also be exploring newspaper terms and concepts. The end of our project will actually prove to be a beginning ... the beginning of a student newspaper that we'll continue to publish through-out the school year.
You're at the start of something big. You are one of the founders. You are one of the leaders. Your ideas, input, and vision is needed to get this project up off the ground and running.
Start sniffing around ... for the news! But first, take this quick survey. Thanks!
